The 2024 Minnesota Presidential Nominating Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. Polls will be open from 7 AM to 8 PM.
In-person early voting will occur January 19th to March 4th at Medina City Hall located at 2052 County Road 24, Medina MN, 55340. City Hall will be open for voting Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4:30 PM, and Saturday, March 2nd, 9 AM to 3 PM.

The City of Medina administers city, state and federal elections for its residents on even years. The odd year school district elections are administered by each school district. The City is available to answer your questions about polling places, voter registration, absentee voting, and other election information.

The City of Medina works closely with Hennepin County and the Minnesota Secretary of State to ensure that our election system is safe and secure.
According to the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State:

The Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State works to ensure that every vote is properly cast, counted, and reported.
Minnesota’s reliance on paper ballots is a cornerstone of ballot security. Minnesota does not have ‘electronic voting,’ so the paper ballots are the basis for the outcome of an election. Paper ballots and vote totals are reviewed by city, county, and state election officials several times before an election is ultimately certified by the state canvassing board.”

2022 Local Candidate Results
Kathleen Martin ran unopposed and was re-elected to Mayor. There were three candidates running for two open seats on the Medina City Council. The local election results are as follows:
Todd M. Albers – received 1,616 votes (elected)
Dino DesLauriers – received 1,285 votes (elected)
Ryan D. Kaplan – received 1,068 votes
2022 Redistricting Update – Due to redistricting, the Minnesota Senate and House Districts changed. Medina is now in Minnesota Senate District 37 and Minnesota House District 37A.

Where do I vote on Election Day?
General Election Voting Locations
Use the Secretary of State’s Polling Place Finder to find your voting location, maps, and the districts that represent you.
On even years, Medina has two voting precincts that run along school district boundaries: Precinct 1 & Precinct 2.
On Election Day, voting locations are:
Precinct 1 – Orono (ISD #278) and Delano (ISD #879) school districts within the City, vote at Precinct 1A, City Hall, 2052 County Road 24, Medina, MN 55340.
Precinct 2 – Wayzata (ISD #284) and Rockford (ISD #883) school districts within the City, vote at Precinct 1B, which is located at the Hamel Community Building, 3200 Mill Drive, Medina, MN 55340.
On odd years, each school district holding an election that year will determine the voting location for Medina residents within their perspective school districts.
Absentee Ballots/Early Voting
Residents may obtain an absentee ballot starting 46 days before an election.
Request an absentee ballot using the Secretary of State’s online application.
If you apply more than 46 days before the election, your ballot will be mailed to you at least 46 days prior to the election. If you apply within 46 days of the election, your ballot will be mailed to you within a day or two of your application being received. Your mailed ballot will come with instructions and a return envelope. Ballots must be returned and received before or on election day by 3 p.m.
Mail-in Absentee ballots can be returned in-person at Medina City Hall during business hours (M-F, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) or mailed to the Hennepin County Government Center.

Voter Registration
If you voted in the last election in Medina and have not moved or changed your name, you should already be pre-registered to vote in the next election. If you have not registered to vote and would like to pre-register, you must submit a voter registration application or register online at least 20 days in advance of the next election. In Minnesota, you may register to vote on election day at your polling place. Municipal Elections
The City of Medina’s next municipal election will be held in 2024. The offices on the ballot will be the Mayor (2 year term), and two Council Members (4 year terms), which are at-large positions, representing all Medina residents.
